Target: Renegade
Imagine - 1988
Generation: 3
Machine: ZX Spectrum, and many others
Genre: Fighter
With Double Dragon winning players left right and centre in the arcades software houses were falling over themselves to port it to the home computer market. Imagine was one such company but, despite their pedigree they lost out to Domark who produced a less than average conversion. Happily, Imagine’s response was to create Target: Renegade which round-houses the pants off Double Dragon.
This two-player scrolling fighter sees you taking on all comers as you make your way through the mean streets of... well somewhere pretty mean. You start in a car park an immediately thugs are trying to run you down on motorbikes. As you progress there are skin-heads with baseball bats and ladies of the night with whips. The animation of these characters is really quite something for the old 8-bit computers and the whole thing is finished off with a wry sense of humour.
