Part game and part creative tool, Sim City 2000 took the original Sim City into three dimensions. It added just enough to give you lots more to think about but not too much like its unwieldy sequels. There was so much to do and so many different things to build that you could play for hours on end without a moments boredom. What was perhaps more fun than that was watching what the citizens of you city built in the areas you allocated. I watched my people build a cathedral where I was hoping for a mall so I bulldozed it and waited to see what they would build next; a cathedral again, bulldozed again and waited again. I had to bulldoze that cathedral six times before I got my own way.

You’ll hear us talk a lot on this site about open-ended game play, it’s a rare treat to find a truly open-ended game and a rarer treat to find one that gives you enough to do to keep you playing for weeks, months, years. SimCity 2000 is such a game.
