Flat Batteries welcomes non-flash users!

Flat Batteries is a website dedicated to promoting video games as a significant part of our culture deserving of the same respect we give films and novels. Video games can be called art and we're here to prove it. If all that sounds a little heavy a quick look at our sections will show you it is not.

We have the Pixel Chicks, a fun look at female game characters; the Wish List which offers our suggestions for the games we’d like to see made; The Most Overrated Games of All Time which is pretty self explanatory; we’ve guides to emulation and emulators; and a look at the music generated by pioneering sound chips. We try to write a new editorial article (or more usually, rant) around once month and you’ll find a long history of them in the Editorials section as well as the most recent one on the Load”” page which acts as the site’s main homepage.

At the beating heart of the site you will find the Machines and Game-Star Heroes sections. The Machines section takes a look at the computers and consoles we use to run our favourite games old and new on. The Game-Star Heroes is our celebration of the best games ever. Some may surprise you, others will not but guaranteed be they on Sega Master System, Mega Drive, Genesis, Game Gear, Saturn, Dreamcast or Nintendo NES, SNES, Gameboy, Gameboy Advance, N64, Virtual Boy, Gamecube, DS, Wii or Sony Playstation, PS2, PSP, PS3, or Microsoft X-box, X-box 360 or PC, ZX Spectrum, Commodore C64, Amiga, Atari 2600, Atari ST, Lynx, Jaguar or online or in the arcade, if they’re great, we’ve got ‘em and we can usually tell you how to get ‘em to!

We don’t pretend to be fair or balanced; we are biased totally but only towards great quality games. We know there are other sites out there with similar aims and we’re glad to not be alone. On our Links page you will find a hand picked selection of sites we like.

If you want to contact us to tell us you love us or that we’re mad you’re welcome to use the Contact Us page, we’ll print the best ones on the Your Emails page.

And that’s pretty much it except to say that we’re glad you’re here and we’re glad you made the effort to read all the way down to here. Trust me the flash animation you’re missing was way more fun but far less informative.

Now if you'd like to press the start button below or click here, we shall begin!
